Joann Ruth (Speweik) Kurth

Joann Ruth Kurth passed away Saturday March 10th in Genesis Heatlhcare – Point Place at the age of 83. She was born November 4, 1934 in Toledo to Alfred & Dorothy (Miller) Speweik and she graduated from high school in Columbus. Joann returned to Toledo and began her career in housekeeping at Lake Park Nursing Facility and eventually went to the Medical College of Ohio where she remained till her retirement in 1989.

Joann enjoyed crafting, decorating and baking. She also loved shopping, playing bingo, her lottery tickets and going out to eat. She was an active member of Good Shepherd of the Deaf Lutheran Church.

Joann exemplified courage by overcoming her challenge of being deaf her whole life. Her family and friends were her greatest love and she will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Joann is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert, Jack, Wayne and Gale Speweik; sister Janet Workman; daughter Tammy Gust and son-in-law Mike Stacy. She is survived by her daughters Terry Tenney and Tina Stacy; sister Jeannette Hartford; son-in-law Jerold Tenney; grandchildren Laura (Richard Knerr) Banks, Jason (Amy) Stacy, Renee (Peter) Florek, Jessica (Andrew) Schwab, Jonathan (Julia) Gust, Brandi (Chad) Gilbert, Samantha (Andre) Thomas, Nathan Tenney, Jenny Stacy and Jacob (Katie) Stacy; great grandchildren Jessica, Phillip, Kirsten, Jocelyn, Cassandra, Veronica, Jackson, Dietrich, Aiden, Alicia, Nicklaus, Abigail, Connor, Braylon, Xavier, Bryce, Xander and Eloise as well numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Family will receive friends Thursday at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. from 5 – 8 PM where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 AM followed by interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Her family would like to thank St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center ICU and Genesis Healthcare Point Place for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to her family to offset expenses.
