Obituary

Betty Jane (Oberle) Hoyt, age 94, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at Wolf Creek full-care facility in Holland, Ohio.

Betty was born on May 24, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Raymond Oberle and Dorothy A. Oberle (Bushrey).

On July 28, 1956, Betty married Byron A. Hoyt. Together they built a life centered around family and shared nearly 59 years of marriage. Byron preceded her in death on April 25, 2015, at the age of 90.

Above all else, Betty was devoted to her family. She dedicated much of her life to raising her children and creating a loving home for them. As the mother of seven children, family was always at the heart of Betty’s life. Over the years, that family grew to include 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great pride and happiness.

Betty had tremendous energy and loved being around people. She loved to laugh and had a natural ability to make others feel comfortable and welcome. Her outgoing personality, warmth, and sense of humor made it easy for her to strike up a conversation, and she genuinely enjoyed the company of others.

That love of people was one of the reasons Betty enjoyed working at Sal’s Italian Restaurant. She especially enjoyed engaging with customers and coworkers, and the restaurant provided the perfect setting for her friendly and outgoing personality.

As a young woman, Betty loved to dance, especially with Byron, who was an accomplished dancer. They shared many wonderful times together on the dance floor. Betty also enjoyed an occasional trip to Las Vegas with the girls, where there was always plenty of friendship, laughter, and fun.

Betty had a special passion for Bingo, one of her favorite pastimes. Whether dancing with Byron, playing Bingo, enjoying a trip with friends, or simply sitting and talking with family, Betty enjoyed life the most when she was surrounded by people.

Betty also loved her animals! She always had her favorite cat and dog.

Betty is survived by her children, William “Bill” (Kim) Parker of Camden, Michigan; Diane (Kenneth) Alcorn of Monclova, Ohio; Thomas (Kristen) Hoyt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Bernice (Daniel) Davis of Toledo, Ohio; and Jeffrey (Nichol) Hoyt of Spanaway, Washington. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, extended family, and many others who knew and loved her.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Byron A. Hoyt; her daughter, Brenda Sue Parker, who died at birth; her son, David A. Hoyt; her parents, Raymond Oberle and Dorothy A. Bushrey; and her brothers, Robert Oberle and Richard Oberle.

Arrangements were entrusted to Castillo Funeral Home in Toledo, Ohio. Services were private for immediate family.

Betty lived a long and full life centered on the things that mattered most to her—family, friendship, laughter, and being with people. Those who knew her will remember her energy, her laughter, her welcoming personality, and the way she could make people feel at ease.

Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love and laughter she shared will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many people who are fortunate enough to have known her.
