Cruz J. Garcia died Monday, December 21, 2015 in Heartland of Perrysburg at the age of 92. He was born April 28, 1923 in Avondale, Colorado to Maximillian & Angela (Gallardo) Garcia. After moving to Toledo, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in combat in the Asian – Pacific Theater. Cruz was in combat in New Guinea and the Philippines receiving 3 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart for his service.

He returned to Toledo and married Mildred Avalos. Cruz worked for Nickel Plate Railroad and Jeep where he retired from in 1985.

He possessed a very strong will and work ethic. Cruz will be deeply missed by his family who he loved dearly. He also was lifelong member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Cruz is preceded in death by his wife Mildred and his daughter Minnie; and is survived by his children Stella (Fred) Powell, Dolores, Mary Lupe, Tina, Josephine, Rose; son Cruz J., Jr.; all grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. (North of Sylvania Ave.) Sunday from 4 – 8 pm where a Rosary will be recited at 7 PM. Funeral prayers will be recited Monday at 11:15 AM in the funeral home followed by funeral Mass at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church at 12 Noon. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
