IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Curtis Leon
Penn
July 9, 1938 – December 29, 2016
Curtis (Curt) Penn passed away at age 78 on Thursday evening December 29th. Since early in March 2016, Curt had been at Wolf Creek Care Center, the Lutheran Village Complex located on Perrysburg - Holland Rd. Born July 9, 1938 to Melville and Hildegard (Wammes) Penn, Curt has two older brothers Richard and Gerald, whom he truly admired and loved very much.
This generous "Do anything you need" father of four is survived by his wife Linda (Dietsch) Penn, son Michael (Chris) Penn; daughter Deanna (Mike) McComish, son John Penn and preceded in death by daughter Mary Beth Penn Joseph. The Curtis Penn Family also gratefully include 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Curt Penn's youth, teen and high school years not only included working as a paper carrier but eventually as a station manager for the Toledo Blade. As a member of the Boy Scouts in his youth, he enjoyed and came to truly appreciate the natural world. Fatherhood in time would allow sharing these "created" experiences with his family. Interest in language arts led to taking Spanish classes while in high school and then including the German Language in his studies at the University of Toledo. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a major in International Trade and Transportation. Following graduation, Curt began his career at Baron Drawn Steel where he stayed on till his retirement.
Being able to faithfully make his way through those early years of life engendered an appreciation of "what had been given and what to give back" through a blessed acquaintance with (now deceased) Fr. Ron Kurth and Sister Jacquelyn Doepker of the Tiffin Franciscans. Curt was able to be involved with Jail & Prison Ministry. The prison visitations normally took place on Sunday with Fr. Kurth celebrating Mass for the prisoners and the ministry team listening and counseling individually as requested. In addition, Curt served as a CASA volunteer with Lucas County Juvenile Court.
Curt's family will be receiving friends Friday January 6th from 4 – 8 PM at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. where a scripture service will be offered at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10 AM in Christ the King Church 4100 Harvest Lane. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jail & Prison Ministry at the Diocese of Toledo.
