David Michael Poling born April 10, 1958, to Thomas James Poling and Dorothy Mae (Roehrborn) Poling in Toledo, Ohio, passed from this life on Saturday, July 20, 2024. After David's mother's divorce from Tom, Dorothy married James Gerald Thompson Sr. who raised David as his own from 4 yrs. of age whom David referred to as "Dad."
As a teenager, David attended First Apostolic Church where he was a member of the "The New Life Singers." He also enjoyed playing the guitar. David loved the outdoors and enjoyed going fishing with his Uncle Jack Poling and Grandfather Orville Poling. He was skilled in the use of the bow and arrow and looked forward to hunting trips with mentor, Harold Rickard.
David had worked for Jeep and also managed a pizza restaurant for a short period of time. He also loved to do odd jobs such as painting houses. David also participated in the Tough Man Competitions in the 1970's in the category of kickboxing at the Toledo Sports Arena.
David was an animated storyteller whose laughter was contagious. Holidays were always a time of family fun. He was cherished by his family, and their love for him knew no bounds.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Mae (Roehrborn) Thompson, Grandmother Dorothy Swartz, Grandparents Orville and Bernice Poling and Gladys and Ben (Frank) Thompson.
David is survived by his Partner in Life Susan Poling, Stepchildren Brian (Courtney) Rohr, Samantha Pietrykowski, and grandchildren Jackson, Dexter, Emelia and Lennox who call him "Papa."
He is also survived by siblings James (Rosal) Thompson Jr., Kimberly (Allen) Spillman, Cheri (Randy) Disher, Rebecca Thompson, Rachel (Gary) Kufel, Daniel Thompson and Raelynn (Michael) Simpson, and is loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of extended family.
His family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremianville Rd. on Saturday August 17th after 2 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 4 PM.
