David Hammontree Potter, 61, formerly of Toledo passed away on May 1, 2026 in North Shore University Hospital in Mahasset, NY.
He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-one years, Yvonne M. Potter; his son,
Aaron J. Potter; his mother, Carol Sue Jacoby; his father, David Charles Potter of
Temperance, Michigan; his sister, Cara Virginia Potter of Defiance, Ohio; and his
step-sisters, Christine (Kurt) Raymond of Monroe, Michigan, and Gina (Aaron)
Clark of Lambertville, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his cherished son, Alexander C. Potter; his
stepmother, Diana L. Potter; and his aunt, Joyce (Stephen) Potter Shawaker.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, David attended St. John’s Jesuit High School, Milford High
School in Milford, New Hampshire, and graduated from Saint Anselm College.
David’s career and adventurous spirit took him across the United States, Japan,
New Zealand, and England. During the last two decades of his professional life, he
worked in pharmaceutical advertising in New York City as Vice President and
Director of Editorial. Earlier in his career, he worked with individuals recovering
from head injuries and at the Perkins School for the Blind. In 2000, he also worked
as John Turturro’s stand-in on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? by Joel Coen and
Ethan Coen.
A passionate lover of the arts, travel, and the outdoors, David was an accomplished
rock climber in Colorado and an award-winning fine art photographer. Some of his
happiest moments were spent fishing with his son, Aaron. He will be remembered
as an extraordinarily generous man, a devoted father, and a loyal and loving
husband.
