Derrick Jamal Gray affectionally known as "Sleepy" departed this life Tuesday May 7th, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital.  He was born November 24th, 1988 to Debbie Gray and Brian Shaffer in Toledo, Ohio.

Derrick attended Woodward High School until 11th grade and then later that year obtained his G.E.D. Derrick had a passion for working with his hands which lead him to gain employment through TK Industries.  In his spare time, Sleepy loved to play poker, Ohio Lottery, finding some where to fall asleep or bonding with family, but mainly his best friend, Grand dad (Eddie Jackson).  His biggest joy and passion was family and friends because Sleepy never knew a stranger.  Love and loyalty was everything to him.  To know Derrick was to love him.  Derrick was a loving, Caring, genuine and protective big teddy bear to those close to him.

Derrick was preceded in death by his dad, Brian Shaffer, brother: Daniel Gray, Grandmother: Glover Jackson, Grandfather: Eugene McLemore Jr., Great Grand Parents: Purvis and Mattie Brown and aunts: Renae Love, Cynita Cross and Stephanie Flowers.

Derrick leaves to cherish his memory mom: Debbie Gray, Grendad: Eddie Jackson, brothers: Jimale (Starlisa) Gray, Brian Shaffer, Jr. and Dantroy Gray.  Godmom: Carol McIntosh, Uncles: Rodney Love, Anthony Miller, Rickey Banks and Mario McLemore.  Aunts: Rita Lee, LaToya McClung, Shatia Hardy and Kimberly McLemore.  Special friend Christina Battle.  Neices: Jimyah and Jaliyah, Nephews: Keishyonn and Keijuan and a host of other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

His family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. after 11 AM Saturday followed by Funeral Services at 12 Noon. Memorial tributes may be made to his family via this website to help offset expenses.
