Donna Crawford of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026 at the age of 96. She was born on December 21, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to her parents, Herbert and Rose Straub. Donna was a 1947 graduate of Whitmer High School, and continued her education at Toledo University, now known as the University of Toledo.

Donna was a devoted spouse, a loving mother and grandmother, and a cherished and loyal friend whose love was expressed often, and in many caring ways. To know Donna was to experience kindness toward others, and her ability to connect well with people young and old, through her occupations, hobbies, and personal interests.

She married her husband Harold M. Crawford on June 4, 1955 and they were married for 60 years until his death in 2015. They built a life together in West Toledo, living on the same street for decades. There they raised their children Colleen and Matthew, and took several family road-trip vacations during the summers all across the United States and Canada.

Donna worked as a safety aide for Washington Local Schools for 36 years, first at Horace Mann Elementary before that school closed, and then transferring to Wernert, where she remained for over 30 years. She retired from that position as the longest tenured safety aide in the history of Washington Local Schools in 2016, at the age of 86. She also worked at the McDonald’s in Lambertville, Michigan, as a crew trainer for 19 years, retiring from that part-time job in 2009 at the age of 80.

Donna co-founded a Girl Scouts troop for adult Girl Scouts in the Toledo area called People in Girl Scouts, known as the P.I.G.S. She was a lifetime Girl Scout, dedicating over 65 years of her life to Girl Scouting, and with the P.I.G.S. she trained countless troop leaders, attended several conferences, and made numerous trips to Camp Libbey in Defiance, Ohio.

Her family meant the most to her, and she thoroughly enjoyed the holidays, spending time with them, and attending as many activities as she could while watching her grandchildren grow into adulthood. She was proud to have seen both her granddaughters graduate high school, and her older granddaughter graduate college earlier this year.

In her spare time, in addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed scrapbooking and stamping, collectibles, word search and Sudoku puzzles, various crafts, coloring pictures, watching game shows and the Toledo Mud Hens on TV, and playing Bingo at the assisted living facility where she lived.

A special thank you to the care team and staff at Oak Leaf Village of Toledo and the Willows, whose impeccable care for their residents including Donna made such an amazing difference and improvement in her quality of life for the past 4 years.

Donna is survived by her children Colleen and Matthew, and her granddaughters Mallory and Kamryn. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, Herbert and Rose, and various other relatives and family members.

Her family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Thursday from 4-7 PM where funeral services will be held Friday at 10 AM followed by interment at Toledo Memorial Park.
