Dorisann Appling, age 74 of Temperance MI passed away suddenly on December 5, 2025.  She was born to Otto and Isabel Theresa "Eleanor" (Allen) Herzig.

She married her soulmate, Paul Appling on 5/3/1979 and together they owned and operated Gold Crown Stables, Gold Crown Trailer Sales and Gold Crown Pony Rides.  She had a passion for horses and ponies from a very young age until the date of her death.  She found so much joy and peace in caring for them, they were her "4 legged children".

Dorisann was also a school bus driver for Bedford Public Schools for over 30 years until she retired in 2022.  She truly enjoyed being a bus driver and cherished the bonds that she created with all of the children and their families.  But more than anything, Dorisann lived for her family.  Her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.  She was always a steady source of love and support to all who knew her.

Dorisann is survived by her loving daughter Darlynn (Douglas) Nix; brother Otto (Bonnie) Herzig; grandchildren Stacie (Devon) Michalski, Christopher (Arianna) Nix and Cassandra (Griffin) Nix; great-grandchildren Liam, Wyatt and Averi Farthing; several nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul Appling; brother Jim Herzig; sisters, Linda Jambor and Sharon Herzig-Vogt; and nephews Michael Herzig and Jason Jambor.

Dorisann will be deeply missed but her warmth, strength and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Her family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Thursday from 3-7 PM where funeral services will be held at 6 PM. Memorial tributes may be made to her family via this website to help offset expenses.
