Frances Ruth
(Metty) Konwin
February 19, 1933 – February 5, 2022
Frances Ruth Metty Konwin passed away Saturday February 5, 2022 in her home surrounded by her family, A wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother who has accomplished many challenges in her lifetime. She is remembered for her passion for golf, listening, and teaching just to name a few.
Completing her early education at St. Agnes Grade School and St. Ursula Academy. She played tennis and graduated cum laude earning a Bachelor of Science in Math with Teaching Certification from Mary Manse '55. After raising her family, she taught Math at Lourdes College.
Marrying the love of her life, September 7, 1957, they moved to Detroit. She taught while he completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) from the University of Detroit. Beginning a family of their own in Michigan, they moved to Toledo where they eventually purchased a home and resided for 54 years. In her later years, she worked in Jacobson's China and Bridal Registry and volunteered at St. Anne's Mercy Hospital.
Hobbies varied from bowling, golf, croquet and euchre at family events. Even in her 80's, she enjoyed playing progressive rummy with friends every Sunday night. She had an artistic eye. She loved to work with her hands in needlework, water color, sewing, elaborate gift wrapping and holiday decorating.
She enjoyed her remaining years in the comfort of her home and receives a unanimous vote for Mother of the Century from her adoring children.
Preceded in death by her parents Norbert & Esther Metty, husband "Doc John", sons-in-law: Skip Morrin and Ger Walsh, daughter- in-law: Dawn Cox; Grandchildren Luke & Lee Morrin.
Surviving are her children: Leslie Morrin (Skip), John (Bernadine), Lisa Walsh (Ger), Ellie Johnson (Bill), and Mike (Dawn); Grandkids: Brooke (Billy) Melot, Aden (Gabrielle), Evan, Collin Walsh; Liam, Ciera Johnson; Joe (Kelsea), Shane Konwin; Great grandkids: Logan, Kylee, Brooklyn, Liam, Noah, Eden, Everly, Levi, Leo.
She proudly went by several nicknames: Bakki, Fran-igan, Gramma, Grammy, Lala, Moomie, Queen,and during the Halloween season: Fran-kenstein.
The family is especially grateful to Dr. Thomas McAlear, the staff of Visiting Angels over the years and Hospice team from Southern Care, and the Christ the King Parish community. She was a friend of Dr. Bob & Bill W.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), or St. Anne's Mercy Health, or breast cancer foundation of choice.
Her family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Thursday February 10th after 4 PM followed by a Scripture Service at 6:30 PM. Funeral prayers will be said in the funeral home Friday at February 11th 10 AM followed by Funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:30 AM with interment at Calvary Cemetery.
