James “Jim” Fredrick Stetler (“Mail Man”), age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2026.
Jim proudly enlisted in 1963 and served on active duty in the United States Navy until 1965, continuing in the reserves until March of 1969. Following his military service, he spent several years driving semi-trucks across the country, embracing life on the open road. He later began his career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for many years before retiring as a union representative—a position he was very proud to hold.
Jim was known for his friendly nature, quick wit, and infectious laugh. There wasn’t a person he met that he didn’t like, a joke he couldn’t tell, or a moment he couldn’t brighten. Fishing and hunting were among his greatest passions, and he found joy in spending time outdoors. He was loved deeply by many, including his close friend Nancy, and leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter and warmth.
Jim is survived by his children: Kelli (Cyrus), Jay, Joe (Darlene), Julie, and Aundrea (Rob). He is also survived by his close friend Nancy; his sisters: Jill (Morris), Janis (Mike), Jo Marie, Denise (Bryan), and Jody; his grandchildren: Jimmy, Sean, Shain, Tyler, Keith, Anna, Justin, Elizabeth, Bree, and Amy; and 11 great-grandchildren. He loved all of his grandchildren dearly, and they cherished their Papa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda (Clark) Stetler; his brother, Jack Stetler; and his parents, Lowell “Mickey” Stetler and Elizabeth Colby (Stetler) Davis.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, May 3rd from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at VFW Post 2898, 3925 W. Alexis Rd., Toledo, Ohio.
Jim’s life was one of service, hard work, humor, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
