Obituary

Marjorie K. “Mitzi” Staskiewicz (101), of Toccoa, Georgia, and formerly of Toledo, OH,

passed away into the presence of the Lord on Monday, October 12, 2026, at her home.

She was born on December 9, 1924, in Oregon, OH, to Christian and Bertha (Lalendorf)

Johnson. Mitzi attended Clay High School and after graduating in 1942, she worked as

a secretary for 13 years for the Mennell Milling Company in downtown Toledo. She

married William Staskiewicz in 1955, and together they raised four children. Mitzi

returned to work once her children were all in school—first as a bookkeeper at Christ

the King School, and later as a secretary at Gesu School. She retired in 1988. All who

knew Mitzi knew that she had a strong faith, that she cherished time with her family

and friends, and she also loved a good book. Among her other interests, she enjoyed

traveling, crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, red wine, and popcorn. She loved to

sing, and anyone who met her knew that she had a song for anything and everything.

Mitzi is survived by her son, Joel (Holley) Staskiewicz, son, John (Christine) Staskiewicz,

daughter, Janet (Jim) Coleman, and son, Jim (Michaela) Staskiewicz; grandchildren

Justin (Dressa) Staskiewicz, Caitlin (Tyler) Graham, Alisyn Staskiewicz, Laura (John)

Nygard, Michael (Mallika) Buckenmeyer, Rachael Staskiewicz, and Audrey Staskiewicz;

step-grandchildren Leah (Jarred) Lawson, and Tess Stern. She is also survived by five

great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. Mitzi was preceded in death by her

husband, her parents, her brothers, Robert “Bob” Johnson, Warren Johnson, and Neil

“Mike” Johnson, and her granddaughter, Kristin Staskiewicz.

A Celebration of Mitzi’s life will be held on a later date. Memorial contributions may be

made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/), or the

Amedisys Foundation (which serves Hospice of Toccoa), 53 Rock Dr., Toccoa, GA 30577

(or Amedisys.com/about/foundation).

The family wishes to thank all of Mitzi’s hospice team—especially the nurses and aides,

the Christian ministers who visited her regularly, and her personal caregivers, Stephanie

and Sheila, for their loving care of her over the past two years.
