Obituary

Mark Eugene Wood passed away June 28, 2017 in the Ohio State Medical Center at the age of 56. He was born August 6, 1960 in Olean, NY to Rev. George & Mary Jane (VanDusen) Wood and little brother to Mary Robin Wood. As a youth, he was raised in Angola, NY; St. Ignace, MI; Ishpeming, MI and attended Vincennes University in Vincennes, IN and then transferred to the University of Toledo where he studied Philosophy.

While living in Vincennes, IN he met Debby Chapman and they were married July 17, 1982 and he adopted her daughter Trisha. They moved to Toledo in 1983 and had two more children Sarah in 1986 and Christine in 1990. Mark had his first grandchild in 1997 and over the course of his lifetime acquired 10 more. Mark had his second marriage in 2017 to Olha Pushay where he added to his family her and her son Rodion.

Mark was a self-taught computer programmer which was both a passion and a career. His other passions included involvement in his community where he sang with Maennerchoir at the GAF and Lourdes College Choir. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal and St. Andrew's Episcopal where he sang in their choirs, was a lay Eucharistic minister and served on both Vestries. Mark was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a two-time past Master of the Damascus Collingwood Masonic Lodge # 643.

He was a history buff and enjoyed strategic games such as RISK, Chess and Axis & Allies. Mark loved philosophy and literature and was known for his impactful speeches, sermons and poems. He enjoyed spending times outdoors but most of all making people laugh with his quick wit and fun nature.

Mark will be remembered for being genuine, caring, loving selfless, nurturing and an intelligent gentleman. He was most proud of his family who he dearly loved and enjoyed being with.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Olah; daughters Trisha (Tim) Long, Sarah (Eugene Cutcher) Wood and Christine Wood; stepson Rodion Pelykh  sister Mary Robin Wood;  and eleven grandchildren.
