IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Matthew David
Waters
May 31, 1968 – July 31, 2025
Matt was just hitting his stride in many ways and had so much he was looking forward to. He particularly enjoyed being a new grandfather and undoubtedly had many mischievous plans for the years ahead with them. He dearly loved his wife (who passed 4 years ago) and his children; proudly watching them grow into adulthood and parenthood while still playing games and music together.
Matt had his mother's memory for the words to every song he heard and took it further in his love for music across many genres and by playfully changing the words. He also continued his mother's legacy of genuine appreciation and compassion for others and put it into action providing ongoing, dedicated care for many people over the years,
regardless of his own hardships. Many people who didn't have anyone in their corner reached out to him as a good listener and encourager.
Matt loved being part of a large and boisterous family. A good amount of freedom and not too many rules growing up (except to be good to others) enabled him to become a truly unique person. He had a zest for life, was a hard worker and enjoyed all kinds of play. He found ways to make his work more playful and family-like as well: cooking
special meals, helping work through issues, and celebrating together.
While he could be serious, speak difficult truths, and did tough things, that was not his personality. He was irreverent and found humor in almost everything. He had a light touch in tricky situations that put others at ease to reach better outcomes together.
We feel a giant Matt shaped hole at his loss but are grateful that, in recent years, he had more opportunity to explore live music, travel, and really enjoy his children (Reighn, Melissa, and Michael) and his grandchildren (River, Joni, and Emile).
Matt was an enthusiastic supporter of Project iAm, a group that provides scholarships for people with autism to access support services more quickly in collaboration with local rock bands.
