IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norma Eleanor
(Voegeli) Cherry
November 4, 1925 – December 13, 2015
Norma E. Cherry passed away December 13, 2015 in Toledo Hospital at the age of 90. She was born in Toledo to Ernst & Sophia (Straka) Voegeli on November 24, 1925. Her parents owned a boarding house and bar in east Toledo on Front St. There she learned many life lessons watching her mother cook and her father interact with all the patrons.
Mom was always a hard worker. First as a beautician before she was married and then taking care of the kids as they attended Blessed Sacrament School. She worked numerous jobs from wrapping meat at various grocery stores, on the assembly line at the DeVillbis Co. and later delivering parts for Car Quest.
Mom always put her kids and her family first. Norma would see her boys off in the morning with a breakfast, always have a lunch for them as they were allowed to go home for lunch concluding with a family dinner when dad came home from work. After dinner, they would retire to the basement to play ping pong or pool. Norma was an exceptional ping pong player providing the family with some competitive heated games. She always supported her kids in everything attending football, baseball and basketball games, cheering them on and acting as the proud parent.
She loved bowling as was on several teams, both ladies and couples leagues. She also loved to play cards. Norma was especially good at Euchre and played it at the Alpine House often, include the week before she past. As well as being a great cook, she was handy around the house from painting to gardening.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband Edward "Dan" Cherry and is survived by her sons Daniel, Richard (Cindy), Jeffrey and Keith; granddaughters Alexandra Cherry and Andrea (Keith) Haney; and great granddaughter Charley Arabella Haney.
Memorial funeral Mass will be held Saturday February 6, 2016 at 10 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Her family would like to invite friends to Celebrate her life Sunday February 7 at 1 PM at the North Cape Yacht Club. Norma's family prefers memorial tributes in her name be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
