Paul J. Smith died Wednesday July 13, 2016 in Ebeid Hospice Residence surrounded by his family at the age of 93. He was born March 5, 1923 in Toledo to Forest and Helen (Gentner) Smith. After graduating from Devilbiss High School, he joined the U.S. Marines and served in the South Pacific during World War II. While serving he obtained the rank of Buck Sergeant as a radio gunner in the SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber. He returned to Toledo and began working for K & M Machine where he retired from after 40 years.
Paul enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing. He was an avid golfer achieving three hole in ones. Paul loved bowling especially in the senior leagues at Twin Oaks Lanes where he made many friends. He was a member of the VFW 606. One of Paul's greatest experiences was participating in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.. His greatest joy was his family specifically spending time with his great grandchildren.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife of 62 yrs. Jeanne H. Smith and brothers Ronald and Richard Smith. He is survived by his son Steven Smith; daughter Pastor Judy Gill; granddaughters Nicole (David) Wachowiak and Kimberly (Joseph) Fojtik and great grandchildren Jacob, Weston, Andrew, Alexis and Molly; sister-in-law Barbara (Richard) Harer as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends their sincere thanks for the wonderful care that dad received at ProMedica Toledo Hospital, Arbors of Sylvania and the Ebeid Hospice Residence.
Friends may call at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Sunday July 17, 2016 from 2-8 PM where funeral services will be held Monday July 18, 2016 at 10 AM followed by interment at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery where Marine Corps funeral honors will be held. Memorial tributes may be made to Flag City Honor Flight P.O. Box 895, Findlay, OH 45893.
