Betty Jane (Macklin) Palmer (April 22, 1941 – July 19, 2023) of Sunset Village, Sylvania, OH passed away. Betty was born in Wheeling, WV to loving parents August and Mary Macklin. She would move to Sandusky, MI to raise her children.
She worked for many years at the Westpark Inn as a housekeeper. She had many fond memories of the owners and her daughters. She also held many jobs cleaning or providing in-home health care to the ill and disabled. Betty would eventually return to Wheeling, WV. She and Gene remarried for 22 years until his passing.
In 2012 she moved to Toledo, OH to be closer to her children. She was a resident of Hope Manor apartments for 12 years. She had many special friends from her time there. As she continued to have declining health, she moved to Sunset Village for access to continuous care. The staff of Sunset Village all loved the sass and spunk Betty brought to their every encounter. Betty was never one to mince words and loved to make people laugh. On any day she was sure to send someone reeling with a clever one liner. One of her favorites was to respond to the question, “How you feeling Betty?”, she would say, “with my fingers!” That was her way of letting you know she was still in the game.
Betty’s greatest love and hobby was her children. No greater love exists than of a mother to her child and this was true of Betty. She relished visits from her daughters and grandchildren. The chaos only brought her joy and comfort. She was a woman of little financial means, but her generosity was that of a millionaire.
Betty leaves a legacy of love through her four surviving daughters; Mary Jane Pridgeon (Bill) (Lambertville, MI) and their five children, Michelle Jones (Sandusky, MI) and her four children and six grandchildren, Denise Klosterman (Ron) (McMinnville, TN) and their three children and six grandchildren and Regina Moran (Sandusky, MI) and her three children and five grandchildren. She also leaves behind six other grandchildren living in Florida, North Carolina, Texas, and Michigan; 24 great grandchildren; and her sister, Naomi DiLoretta (Wheeling, WV).
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Gene Palmer (Wheeling, WV); three of her children, Michael Palmer (Sandusky, MI) Sandra McCann (Marlette, MI) and Gordon Palmer (Toledo, OH); a grandson, Michael Palmer Jr.(Sandusky, MI); brother, William Herron (Bentwood, OH), Kenneth Herron (Sandusky, MI); sister, Alice Thomason (Madison Heights, MI) and Sandra Macklin (Toledo, OH).
A visitation will be held in Betty’s honor at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Sandusky, MI on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 11am to 1pm. A private burial will be held after.
