David Nagel Obituary

David Nagel, 73, left this world on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.  He was born in Toledo to Walter and Pauline (Hayward) Nagel on July 10, 1949 and graduated from Start High School. While in high school, he played drums in a band called Beethoven’s Fifth, which began his love of music. Dave received his Bachelor Degree from University of Toledo, where he was involved with antiwar activities and even went to Washington to protest the war.

Dave liked to hitch-hike and spent many years going to Hocking Hills and even hitch-hiked to California and Mexico in the early 70’s. Dave got a kick out of telling the story of an old beggar woman from Juarez, who referred to him as a “Filthy Hippie”. He would say no matter how you were doing in life, there would always be someone to look down on you to make themselves feel better. Dave was very socially conscious and felt a kinship with the unfortunate and downtrodden members of society, who held a special place in his heart.

He was passionate about music (a friend of Jerry), literature and politics but loved having conversations about anything and everything on your mind.  Dave’s favorite pastime was riding his Harley FLH or relaxing in the backyard, drinking some beers, and listening to music.  He was a true believer in “live and let live.”  Dave was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Chenoa and best friend Frank Youngblood, who he loved like a brother.  He is survived by his wife, Gena, sons Dylan (Nikki), Josiah (Jessica) and Josh, grandchildren Harlan and Harper, sisters Sally (Neil) and JoAnn, nephews Adam and David (Samira); and mother-in-law Shirley “Ginger” Richardson.  Service will be private.
