DeMetria "Meshia" Monique Swanigan

DeMetria Monique Swanigan affectionately known as “Meshia” was born on September 17, 1979 to Deborah Foster and Sydney Ramsey in Toledo, Ohio.  She unexpectedly passed away at the age of 45 on July 6, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee.

DeMetria was a woman of love, strength and devotion.  She started working at the age of 13 and after attending Libbey High School she moved to Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 18.  Meshia worked in the fast-food industry for 15 years before moving on to Fed Ex where she enjoyed loading the planes.  She also found great joy in providing cosmetology services to family and friends where her creativity shined through.

However, DeMetria’s greatest love was her family.  She enjoyed spending time with them, would visit often and cared for them deeply.

DeMetria is preceded in death by her father, Sydney Ramsey and is survived by her mother, Deborah Foster; sisters, Sonya Wilson, Camille Ballard, Indigo Ballard and Quianna Ballard; brothers, Steve Liddell (Tammy), Jerome Craig, Brandon Cooke, Marshawn Hunt, Kenny Ballard (Nikki); nieces, Alaiysha Zion, Mari, Cahlynn, Sandra, Kennesha; nephews, Steve Jr., Pierre, Nelly, Zay, Brandon Williams, Jr.; and  BFF of 30 years Audreia Brownlee.

Although her passing was sudden, she will always be remembered for her generous heart, her laughter and the ability to light up any room she entered.  Her spirit lives on through all the lives she has touched in such a short amount of time and a lifetime of memories.

Her family will receive friends at the Castilo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Saturday after 11 AM followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12 Noon.
