Dennis Schwab Obituary

Dennis Harold Schwab, 69, of Toledo, Ohio, peacefully let go on Friday, December 15th, 2023, following a 1.5 year battle with cancer.

Denny was born on January 2nd, 1954 in Oregon, Ohio to Loretta D. (Juergens) Schwab and Victor W. Schwab. Denny attended Macomber High School.

Denny was preceded in death by his father, Victor, mother, Loretta, his sisters, Patty and June, and his brother-in-law, Harold Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Marki, brother, Jim, sister, Vicky, children, Dennie, Darrell (Toni), Crystal (Brian), Adrienne (Mexicali), Matthew (Audrey), stepdaughters Nicole (Gabe), Aleasha (John), and thirteen grandchildren.

Denny was born at St Charles Hospital, the youngest of five. Denny described himself as “curious, funny, and friendly” as a child. His favorite childhood memories were playing outside all year round and camping with his sister, June, and her husband, Harold, whom he was named after, and their kids. Denny’s love of nature defined him throughout his life, spending lunch breaks at various parks, and quickly sharing his excitement when he would spot a bald eagle flying overhead. Camping in childhood turned into an annual tradition of camping at Mohican every summer with his children, and later, his grandchildren as well. Mohican was Denny’s ultimate happy place and where his ashes will be spread.

Denny described himself as “fun, wild, and fearless” as a teenager. His favorite memories were the 30+ concerts he attended during those years. His favorite songs were Fortunate One by CCR, Satisfaction by Rolling Stones, Going Home by Ten Years After, Please, Please, Please by James Brown, and any songs by Neil Young, Bob Seger, Ted Nugget, Black Sabbath, and Santana.

Denny fought many battles in his younger years so it is no surprise he fought so hard at the end of his life. Denny celebrated 40 years of sobriety this year. He was not one to settle. He said that if he could pick one superpower for himself, it would be to be a Healer.

Denny was a rockstar commercial truck tire salesman who was fought over when switching companies. Those he worked with in the industry became his greatest friends. He was a loving husband, dad, and papa. Acts of Service was his love language and he could fix anything. “Nothing is ever really broken,” he once said. He loved spending his free time “tinkering,” as he would call it, and building birdhouses in the garage. If he wasn’t doing that, you could surely find him in his recliner, watching the Detroit Pistons or Detroit Lions play, while fluffing up a feline friend.
