JoAnne Nagel Obituary

JoAnne Nagel passed away unexpectedly in her home on October 4, 2022 at the age of 75. She was born January 21, 1948 to Walter and Pauline (Hayward) Nagel of Toledo, the first of three children.

JoAnne attended Whittier Elementary, then Start High School graduating in 1966 as part of the first four year class of the then brand new school.

She received an Associate’s Degree as a lab tech from the University of Toledo, where she was a member of Sigma Iota Chi sorority, and subsequently worked in the Hematology Laboratory of Toledo Hospital for 17 years. JoAnne then moved to Nabisco where she enjoyed testing grain until her retirement.

She loved the outdoors, nature and animals especially, and enjoyed a variety of activities far and near, from skiing in Canada to rock climbing in California as well as birding and gardening in her yard. JoAnne also enjoyed many vacations in the Alpena MI area, and with her prodigious memory was the repository of the family history. She owned several West Highland Terriers over the years and was devoted to her most recent fur babies Yancey and Piper. She was a terrific dancer. She loved classic rock and roll music, having lived through the Golden Age of it from Elvis on, and had extensive knowledge of groups, songs and singers. During her life she was a generous gift giver.

She is survived by her sister Sally(Neil) Rochotte, sister in law Gena (David) Nagel, nephews Adam and David (Samira) Rochotte, Josiah (Jessica) Poupard and Dylan (Nikky) Nagel. JoAnne is preceded in death by parents Walter and Pauline Nagel, brother David Nagel, and niece Chenoah Poupard.

The family suggests any memorial tributes be made to Westie Rescue Michigan, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or any charity of their choosing. Her family will be having private services at a later date.
