The Greeks didn’t write obituaries. They only asked one question after a man died: Did he have passion?” – Quoted from the movie Serendipity
Jonathan Paul Smith (1982-2023) doubtlessly had passion in his too short life. He had passion for auto racing, be it Formula 1, rally car racing, or his favorite Indycar and the Indianapolis 500. He had passion for his work as he was about to start on his dream job building car prototypes. Most of all he had passion for his family.
Born in 1982 to Michael and Elizabeth Smith in Toledo, Ohio, where he grew up alongside his brother Matthew. Jonathan graduated from Whitmer High School in 2001 and went on to later earn an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering technology. After receiving his degree he worked at several companies involved in automobile manufacturing while always looking for a way to support or be involved with racing. Jonathan was married to his wife Kristy in 2013 and together brought forth his greatest passion, his son Lucas in 2015. Jonathan left us Thursday August 24, 2023.
Jonathan is survived by his son Lucas, wife Kristy, mother and father Michael and Elizabeth Smith, brother Matthew Smith and his wife Heather, niece Janelle Smith, nephews Nathan and Collin Smith, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived.
His family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Wednesday from 4 - 7 PM where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 AM.
Memorial tributes may be made to Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 75851, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or Woundedwarriorproject.org.
