Joseph House, Jr. Obituary

Joseph Cleveland House, Jr., lovingly known as Junior, was son to Zettie Elizabeth Smitherman
(Cherry) and JC House in Montgomery Alabama on November 10 th , 1942. Being the eldest of
six, he learned the importance of hard work, selling peanuts, and vegetables on the street
corners in Chisolm, helping the family with basic necessities.
In 1960 he enlisted in the Marine Corp and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and
served until 1965. During his service, he attended training at Camp Perry and ended up
meeting the love of his life, Roxanna Lee House (Schnurr) in downtown Sandusky. Several love
letters later and an emphatic YES, from Roxy, to a proposal made on the carousel ride at Cedar
Point, the two were married on September 19, 1962 and were married for 53 years.
Sometime after leaving the military and moving to Ohio, he started working for the N & W
railroad and worked for them for 12 years. Joe was a known, skilled fisherman at Lake Erie and
the river, catching perch, walleye and white bass. He enjoyed picking and running the Lazy Dog
Antique business with his wife, Roxy and was an exceptional craftsman when it came to
refurbishing antique furniture and trunks, giving them new life.
He is survived by his son, Brian House, Clyde, OH, daughter, Genie (Dale) Moyer, Clyde, OH
and grandchildren Melissa (Matthew) Nobes, Michael (Kayt) Harden, Michelle (Nick) Michael,
Mason Harden, Joseph House and Bryan House, three great-grandchildren, companion Janet Eden, as well as his sisters, Margaret House and Elsie
Jones, both of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Roxy, son Joseph Craig House, brother Paul
House, and sisters, Elizabeth Sturdivan and Geraldine Smitherman.
Upon his request, there will be no services held.
