Katy Mae Tolbert was born May 5, 1943, to Ed Johnson and Mattie Macabee in Jackson, Mississippi. Katy was a believer in God and baptized at an early age at New Prospect Baptist Church. She worked at Toledo Hospital as a surgical technician for thirty-eight years, where she retired. She loved her family very much; she enjoyed making collages for family and friends and made the best dressing. She also gave the best parties.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Kenny Tolbert, her brothers, Robert Lee and Willie Johnson, favorite niece, Vicky, and nephew, Victor.
Katy leaves to mourn her daughter, Yvette Johnson; son, Derek Johnson; her son-in-law, William Eric Baker, Sr.; her granddaughters, Tierra Nicole Johnson, Shawnte Marie Hawkins (Ray Hooker); three great-grandchildren, RaShawn, Amare, and Stephon Hooker; four sisters, Elenor Lindsey Johnson, Pearl Montgomery, Hattie King, and Gloria Pope; and two brothers, Nathaniel (Carolyn) Evans, and James (Tammy) Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family will receive friends at New Prospect Baptist Church 1425 W. Delaware Ave. Toledo, OH 43606 on Friday November 10th after 10 AM followed by A Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to the family via this website to help offset expenses.
