Kay Durbin Obituary

Kay Ann Durbin, age 75, of Toledo, Ohio peacefully joined her Savior on May 20, 2021 at her home, with her family, after battling dementia for several years.

Kay's warm smile and shining blue eyes always lit up any room.

Kay was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School, the class of 1963. She then worked for the Woolworth Co. for a short time before marrying Walter E Durbin Jr. on May 8, 1965. They recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Kay was a virtuous wife, always found to be working by her husband's side.

She took pride in flashing the Digger windows of "her trailer" and always had a bottle of Sparkle (the purple stuff) available to get the job done.

She's known at the carnival by everyone who played her Diggers as the "Nice Lady".

Kay embraced any task that came her way with the Lord's joy. (except cooking)

As a mom, she repeatedly went the extra mile. She enjoyed helping her children study their spelling words sometimes even in the bathtub before school.

Kay thought that becoming a grandma was the BEST gift ever! She adored her grandson and devoted her time into making sure he knew that.

Kay had a passion for bowling and frequently bowled in the 200s. She delighted in spending her time going to Las Vegas with the "Vegas Girls", Kay also had fun vacationing with her sister in Florida and she was always ready to play board games, like Scrabble, with her friends.

Kay has loved and nutured many animals during her life, and her favorite was the kitty cats.

She found joy in sending cards, in the mail, to the people she loved and frequently received compliments on her penmanship.

Kay was a best friend to many who knew her.

The family would like to extend thanks to The Glendale Assisted Living Center for the time they where asked to care for Kay.

The family wants to recognize Dale Durbin's noble willingness to participate in the unorthodox departure from The Glendale that brought Kay home.

The family is also grateful for the entire Elara Hospice care team.

The family would like to give special recognition to Karen for her exceptional commitment as Kay's personal caregiver during her journey.

Kay is proceeded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Dorothy (Cope) Salhoff.

Kay is survived by her husband, Wally, her son, Kennenth Scott (Eric and Dominic), her daughter, Kelly Sue (Dave) Johnson, her grandson, Levi Alexander, her sister, Karen (Frank) Newman, her nieces, Kendra (Mike) Newman and Leslie Newman.
