Kirk Edward Monday, 54, of Toledo, Ohio, a devoted father and husband, died tragically on March 20th, 2021 when his small fishing boat capsized on Lake LeAnn, in Jerome, Michigan. Kirk was born on June 3, 1966 in Toledo, Ohio to Erv and Dorotha Monday (Guisinger). Shortly after joining the Ohio National Guard, he graduated from Whitmer High School in 1984. After being stationed in Camp Perry, Kirk began a proud legacy of life on the water, where his passion for fishing grew. In 1989, he married the woman of his dreams, Valerie Long-Monday and shortly after started a family.
As a life-long resident of Toledo, Kirk honored his hometown; he attended Greenwood Elementary, was a fan of the Mud Hens and Storm Hockey teams, and got his first job at the local Ideal Hotdog. After completing his marksman and power squadrons boat smart courses, and some college, he was honorably discharged from the National Guard. Kirk then worked as a Mechanic for Forklifts of Toledo for 14 years, before switching his career to the medical field; working as a Service Technician for Steris sterilization. He retired the last year of his life, adoring his family.
Kirk most of all enjoyed spending Good Times with his family and friends barbecuing Berger’s, training dogs, serving drinks and horderves, and celebrating the sun, the moon, the stars, the lake, the beach and the waves. He vacationed with his wife and children nearly every weekend of every summer and took immense pride in being called Captain (Kirk) by his grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his silly sense of humor, constant need for sunglasses, and many repeated catch phrases and stories.
Kirk was preceded in death by his parents Dorotha and Erv Monday, brother, Mark Monday, and in laws, Walt and Joanne Long. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Long-Monday, brother, Alan (Katherine) Monday, son Evan (Breanna) Monday, daughter Lauren (Roby) Monday, nieces, Holly (Brad) McCormick, Katie Monday, Thea (Jay) Anderson, Jessica (Eric) Torres, nephews, Marcus (Jess) Monday, Jordan (Cherisse) Henry, great-nieces Korra Torres, Tiona Bladel, great-nephews, Jaiden, Lincoln and Hutchins, grandchildren “Burt” and “Rosalie” Beabout, as well as many other close, and extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests for a limited visitation (masks must be worn, 30 guests in the funeral home at a time, and social distancing will be observed inside facilities; please limit visiting to 10 min. or less so others may come in to pay their respects) at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. on Sunday March 28, 2021 after 2 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service and Military Funeral Honors at 5 PM.
