Lawrence “Larry” Wissler (1953 – 2024 )
Lawrence “Larry” Wissler, 71, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on December 12, 2024.
Larry was a proud graduate of Start High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s
degree in mechanical engineering. Throughout his life, Larrry’s passions were as
abundant as his love for those around him. Whether on the volleyball court or the golf
course, Larry found joy in moments spent with family and friends.
Larry wore many hats in his lifetime: coach, boss, entrepreneur, and more. But the
roles he cherished most were being a devoted husband, a loving father, and proud
Papa. He was married to the love of his life, Kathy (Mills) Wissler, his high school
sweetheart for 51 wonderful years. Larry’s favorite quotes, “Me + you, you + me, that’s
the way it will always be” and “I loved you then, I love you now, I’ll love you forever”,
epitomized the unwavering love and dedication he showed to Kathy every day of their
life together. To Larry, she was the greatest gift God could have given him.
As a father to five children, Larry was their hero – the man with the “S” on his chest. He
wasn’t just “Dad”, he was their best friend, mentor, refuge, and guiding voice through
life’s twists and turns. Larry leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, not only for
his family, but for the countless friends whose lives he touched with his warmth and
wisdom.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Wissler; mother, Dawn Haffelder,
father, Bill Haffelder; and brother, Jack Haffelder. Larry is survived by his beloved wife,
Kathy and their five children: sons, Jeffrey, Chad and his wife Megan, Craig and his wife
Terra, David and his wife Lais; and daughter, Bethany; 10 (soon to be 11) grandchildren;
sister, Susan and her husband Gary Miller; sister-in-law, Nancy Haffelder and many
nieces and nephews.
Larry’s Celebration of Life will be held at Castillo Funeral Home, (1757 Tremainsville
Rd.) on January 4, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 4 p.m. In
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to the American Heart Association.
Until we meet again, Larry, enjoy your heavenly wings. You will be deeply missed and
forever loved.
