Lucy Ann (Ferrara) Raftery, 89, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Holy Saturday, April 16, 2022, just in time for preparation and celebration of Easter! She was born September 26, 1932, the daughter of Andrew and Josephine (Bono) Ferrara. She attended the historic St. Patrick’s grade school, 1950 graduate of Central Catholic High School, and 1954 graduate of Mary Manse College (BA in Education).
Lucy married her sweetheart Walter Raftery on July 5, 1958 and were long time members of Christ the King parish. She was proud of her Italian heritage, passionate about caring for her family, and enjoyed canning tomatoes for homemade spaghetti sauce! Her loving and caring nature was undeniable—It’s no wonder she had a green thumb and could grow anything.
After raising the “kids,” Lucy earned her real estate license and worked for Lucas County (Board of Elections and Purchasing). With her strong work ethic and need to stay busy, she enjoyed her job, co-workers, and retired at age 74.
Lucy is survived by her children, Patrick (Marla), Timothy (Ellyn), Andrea, Walter (Bobby Jo), and Mary (Mark Boden); 10 grandchildren; Timothy (Nikki), Bryan (Roseann), Sean (Stephanie), Kevin, Michael, Katie (Seth) Ringel, Ryan (Katie), Lauren (Brandon) Young, Colin and Meghan; 6.5 great grandchildren; siblings Rose Mitro and Sam Ferrara. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter; siblings, Joseph and Marie Ferrara, Josephine Robb.
Friends may visit at the Castillo Funeral Home, 1757 Tremainsville Ave. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Ln. Thurs., April 21, 2022 . Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
