Martie (Horne) Moline died peacefully in her home on January 17, 2021, after 19 months of in-home hospice care. She was born June 9, 1952, to Elmer and Rita (Mauter) Horne, the fourth child of nine. She attended St. Agnes Elementary School and Central Catholic High School, where she developed lifelong friendships, a love of theater, and a devotion to the Fighting Irish. She graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Theater. In 1972, she married the love of her life, Donald Moline, and was the best and most beautiful mother to Kirste (Lee Freeman), Tara, Mary, and Phillip (Katie Bibish), and the most loving and supportive grandmother to Aliyah, Owen, and Evan.
Martie was an active member of St. Agnes, where she served as a CCD teacher, Scout leader, gym teacher, lector, and perennial volunteer. At the age of 40, Martie went back to nursing school, showing her children that it is never too late to blaze a new path. She was a school nurse for almost 20 years, spreading love and joy to children across Toledo. Martie loved theater and was the best audience member in every show because you could hear her laughter anywhere! She was an expert baker, filling her family with homemade bread, pies, and cookies. She found great joy in knitting and gave away thousands of pairs of mittens and many quilts. She was generous with her love and her time, always opening her home and her heart to anyone who needed it. She was the best storyteller, created magical Christmas and birthday celebrations, loved supporting artists and local businesses, and was joyfully devoted to her family and many friends.
Martie is survived by Don, her beloved husband of 48 years, her children, and grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Mike (Jeanne), Tim (Pam), Chris (Denise), and Larry Horne, and sister, Mary Beth (Denny) Shoemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Paul, Pat, and Jack Horne, her sisters-in-law, Mary Sue Scott and Patricia Moline, and her nieces, Lauren and Mallory. Her family is so grateful for her brother Chris, whose kidney saved her life almost 14 years ago and to Hospice of NW Ohio for their loving care.
