Maurice Bernard Woodson was born June 24, 1960 to the late Sam White and Freddie Mae Woodson in Toledo, Ohio. After the passing of his mother Freddie, he was raised by his aunt Phoebe Cox. Maurice accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Toledo, Ohio. Reconnecting with Christ, Maurice turned his life over to God shortly before his passing.
Maurice received his formal education through Toledo public school, graduating from Woodward High School. Proceeding to college, Maurice obtained his associates degree in culinary arts and a certificate in upholstery. Residing in Sacramento, California, Maurice was a truck driver for the city of Sacramento for over 27 years.
Maurice was known as a humble and sweet person. Also, if you knew him, you knew he would always speak his mind. One of 19 siblings, he was very family oriented, always a call away and very protective of his family. A gentle soul who would do anything for those he loved. Maurice was very knowledgeable when it came to money management from a business aspect. His biggest passion was the hobby of collecting various items, especially antique cars.
Maurice departed this life Tuesday, August 1, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory, sisters : JoAnn Shealey, (Charles) Paulette Miller, (Bob) Gwen Atkins, (Bill) Francine Woodson, Rhonda Hester, Kim Florence, Theresa White, Carmen Majors and Michelle Pollock. Brothers: Cedell Woodson, (Janice) Adrian Woodson, Andre Woodson, (Tracy) Houston White, and Sheldon White (Vicky). A host of nieces and nephews and special nephew Eugene “Porky” Woodson. Maurice was preceded in death by parents Sam White, Freddie Mae Woodson, aunt Phoebe Cox, brothers : Earl “Dee” Ellis, Garland Woodson, Ricky White, Eugene (Jr) Woodson. Sister Faye White. Departing shortly after, special nephew Garland Parker.
Maurice’s family will be receiving family and friends at Castillo Funeral Home on Thursday, August 17th at 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 PM.
