On the evening of November 17,2023, Melvin passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Melvin lost a long hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 83 years old. Melvin was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 22,1939, to Izetta and Alvin Dotson. Melvin was the second born out of three brothers Leonard, Craig, and Terry and one sister Brenda.
Melvin attended Edward Drummond Libbey High School. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1975. Melvin briefly worked at City Auto before employment at Manufactures Enameling as a Foreman for many years before retiring at the age of seventy. Melvin was defiantly a workaholic. During his time at Manufactures Enameling, he met Marilyn. They shared many years together before marriage on August 16,1990. Melvin and Marilyn have been blessed to have shared so many years together in health and retirement.
Melvin always had a passion for cars and racing. He often enjoyed doing bodywork and painting cars. He also loved going to the auto shows and drag races with his brothers. Melvin always had tools on hand and was ready to fix anything. Melvin is most known for his daily need to read the newspaper, a bowl of melted ice cream and Oreo cookies. His favorite magazine was Hot Rod. Melvin was persistent in his walk with GOD after joining Precious Blood Church. He regularly attended services until he was no longer able to due to his failing health.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Izetta, and Alvin Dotson; brother, Leonard Dotson; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda (Ethaniel) Chatman; and sisters-in-law, Ida, and Carolyn Dotson.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Dotson; daughter, Heidi (Darrell) Berry; granddaughter, Makala Berry; great-grandson, Darnell Moody Jr.; brothers, Craig, and Terry Dotson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11 AM at Precious Blood Church located at 5253 Bennett Road, Toledo, Ohio 43612.
