Richard Bais Obituary

Richard Margarito Bais joined the angels in heaven on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.

Richard was born January 20, 1987 in Toledo to Rachel Torres-Bais. Richard attended Whitmer High School and worked various manufacturing jobs. Richard enjoyed creating and expressing himself through music. Boxing was a lifelong passion of Richard’s, participating in his younger years then a fan as an adult. Richard was known for having deep conversations about life and philosophy with everyone he met. Richard’s sense of humor and infectious laugh could brighten the darkest of rooms. Richard will be remembered for his silly personality and compassionate heart.

Above everything, Richard loved spending time with family, whom he loved and protected fiercely. His boys, Royce and Alonzo, were the light of his life and the source of his strength.

Richard cherished the unbreakable bonds he had with his mother, sisters Karli and Kayla, cousin Marques, and grandfather.

Through tough self-reflection and consistent hard work in the programs Richard fought to reclaim his life and become a better man and father. Richard created a life in recovery that he was so deeply proud of and had a goal to help others like himself battle their addictions and demons.

Devastatingly, after many months of sobriety Richard relapsed and passed away from an accidental overdose. His untimely death is not in vain, but rather a testament to the beauty of recovery and the unmerciful grip of substance abuse.

Richard was truly a warrior and our family is grateful to have witnessed his resiliency.

Richard leaves to cherish his loving memory: his mother Rachel Torres-Bais, 2 sons Royce and Alonzo Bais, sisters Kayla (Alex) Stiles and Karli Notheis, nieces and nephew Aliyah, Giana, Mila and Owen, grandfather Rudy Torres Sr., aunts, uncles, and many close cousins.

Richard is preceded in death by his grandmother Chanita Bais-Banda and uncle Anthony “Tony” Torres.

Our family also asks that you educate yourself and others about addiction. Nobody asks or wants to be an “addict”. Help stop the shame and stigma of addiction. Our loved one, like all the others suffering from this disease, was so much more than his addiction.
