Richard C. Duffey, Jr. passed away Sunday July 4th in his home surrounded by his family at the age of 70. He was born October 26, 1950 in Toledo to Richard & Elizabeth (Skellie) Duffey, Sr. and graduated from Devilbiss High School in 1968.
Rich joined and served in the Ohio Air National Guard and was stationed with the 180th Civil Engineering Unit as a Staff Sergeant until 1974.
After serving, Rich was appointed to the Toledo Fire Department and was stationed at 6, 7, 5, 1 squad, 13, 23 and the alarm office. He was trained with Hazard Materials, Fire Boat Operations, Fast Water Rescue, River Ice Rescue and High Rise Rope Operations. Rich was awarded the State of Ohio Lifesaving Commendation Award, Toledo Fire Division Lifesaving Award, Toledo Fire Division Bravo Award, and the Lucas County Safety Council Award.
He also served on the Toledo Fire Fighters Union Local #92 Executive Board and was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters. Rich was also a member of the Ohio Firefighters Retirees, Old Newsboys Association and the Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579.
After his retirement from the Toledo Fire Dept. on August 13,1999, Rich was employed with TARTA and the Lake Front Bus Line until 2010.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael; sister Marcia Duffey and his twin sister Beth Parker. Rich is survived by his loving wife Jennifer; step children Nicholas Dehabey and Elizabeth (Steven) Bobash; grandchildren Antonio and Jackie; sisters Barbara (Bob) Hardy and Patricia (Saki) Naseem as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends to Celebrate Rich's Life on Sunday July 18th at the Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579 6072 Main St. Sylvania, OH from 12 Noon to 3 PM with a Toledo Fire Dept. Last Alarm Service at 12:30 PM followed by a luncheon and fellowship. Memorial tributes may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Toledo Firefighters Museum.
