Richard Donald Rombkowski passed away June 22, 2022 at Ebeid Hospice Residence at the age of 85.
“Til’ We Meet Again, Rombo.” That is how former U.S. Marine Buddy ended every article he wrote for the Dana UAW newspaper for decades during and after his retirement. While working for Dana Corporation starting in the 1960’s he served as president of the UAW for eight years, where he contributed greatly to the establishment of workers’ rights.
He didn’t just love to fight for workers’ rights, he also loved the sport and won the Golden Glove Boxing Championship in the 1950’s,
Pen and gloves aside, what Buddy lived for was his family. He was a loving, caring, generous husband, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend. He was the kind of person who loved nothing more than to shop for his nieces and spend weekends boating, fishing and watching football especially OSU!
Born and raised in Toledo, Buddy is survived by: niece, Debbie Klockowski, niece Cindy (Klockowski) Roach, (Larry Roach), niece Karen (Beale) Skelton, (Kevin Skelton), niece Kim (Beale) Johnson, (Rick Johnson); nephew Alfie Beale, niece Chere Olvera an many special great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Theresa Rombkowski; mother Irene Rombkowski, brother Bosco Rombkowski; sisters, Ruthie (Klockowski) Beale and Leona (Rombowski) Kaufman. “Uncle Buddy, we will always love you.”
His family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Tuesday after 3 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6 PM. Private burial will take place at a later date. Please share memories of Uncle Buddy on the tribute wall.
