Robert Dale Connell

Robert Dale Connell of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.  He was 93 years old.

Robert was born on April 4, 1932 to Daniel Joseph and Elizabeth (Stevenson) Connell on Emerald Street in Toledo. He attended Libbey High School and at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  He proudly served our country from 1950 thru 1953 as a Machinist’s Mate aboard the USS Storm and USS Grand Canyon during the Korean War.

Robert married Mary Evelyn Baldwin on October 20, 1956 at Immaculate Conception Church.  Together they had four children, Robert (Bobby), Gail, Patrick, and Joseph.

He was hard working and dedicated to both his family and career.  He spent over 40 years as a carpenter throughout Northern Ohio and Southern Michigan.  Over the years, he worked on thousands of homes and was always happy to point them out when driving in the area.

He enjoyed telling stories of his mischievous youth growing up in the Old South End as well as his yarns while serving in the Navy with his buddies. He had a sense of humor that would always bring a smile to anyone he spoke to. Despite his many responsibilities and a wee bit of his wild Irish side, he was deeply religious.  For years, he attended Saint Patrick’s Historic Church and Saint Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Church.

He was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity that left a lasting impact on his family and friends that will never fade. We find comfort in knowing that dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn and son Bobby.  He is survived by his children Gail (Jorge Lopez), Patrick (Veronica), and Joseph (Claudia).  He has four grandchildren (Oscar, Kevin, Daniel, and Abigail) and 10 great grandchildren.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Rosary Care Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their expert level of care, thoughtfulness, and compassion while caring for our father.

The family will receive friends at Castillo Funeral Home  at 1757 Tremainsville Road on Tuesday, November 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. where a scripture service will be held at 6:30 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, November 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Parish followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
