Troy Mitchell Holmes

 Troy Mitchell Holmes, 52 of Toledo, Ohio, suddenly passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. 

 Troy was born on April 8, 1971, in Toledo, Ohio, to Richard David Brown and Carol Ann Holmes. He was a graduate of Jessup W. Scott High School Bulldogs class of 1989. 

 As a little boy Troy was called Grumpy.  He would get so frustrated when he could not get what he wanted or if asked to do something he didn’t want to do. Troy also had a fascination with motorcycles. Every time he heard our next-door neighbor starting his motorcycle he would run to the window or outside and say there goes the motorcycle, vroom vroom! One day Troy’s father asked our neighbor if Troy could sit on his motorcycle?  Our neighbor not only let Troy sit on his motorcycle, that neighbor allowed Troy to sit in front of him and took him on a ride throughout our neighborhood. The look on Troy’s face was priceless. He was so excited.  There was a time when our mother asked Troy to take the garbage out to which Troy asked, “how much are you going to pay me?” His sister Debbie ran into the living and played a song called No Charge by Shirley Caesar. There was so much laughter that Troy had to laugh too.

Troy enjoyed his Dallas Cowboys, bar-b queuing, sitting and talking with friends, and just enjoyed being with his family. Troy loved all the kids no matter who their parents are.  Troy always had someone else’s kids in addition to his own.  In addition to the Cowboys, his other passion was working on cars.  Troy could diagnose your car without even looking at it.  He would either listen to the car and provide a diagnosis just by listening to it or from what you tell him. 

Troy had two biological brothers Michael and Jeffery and neighborhood brothers too; the Fletcher Family, Long Family, Helm Family, Young Family, Turke Family, Jackson Family, and Walker Family to name a few. The bond of their brotherhood continued until Troy’s passing. 

Troy was employed as a Correctional Officer with the Toledo Ohio Correctional Institute, for 15 years, and Auto Zone for over 10 years. 

After a three-year courtship in 1997, he married Patrice Holmes on April 15, 2000.  Out of that union there were two children, and three bonus children. 

 Troy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle, nephew, and friend. 

Troy is preceded in death by his parents Richard David Brown and Carol Ann Holmes, paternal grandparents Troy and Avis Avery, maternal grandparents William and Eleanor Holmes, and his great nephew Stephon Johnson. 

 Troy leaves to cherish his memories of his wife Patrice Holmes, sons Troy Holmes ll, Tre’Von Holmes, his daughters Tierra Holmes, Dymon Carter, and Taneya Holmes, Goddaughter Aniyah Townsend and Godson Jaren Finley. His grandchildren, he so adored, Goddess Carter, Empress Coleman El, Divine Coleman El, Royalti Holmes, Reign Holmes, and Tyrone Murphy.  His brothers Michael Holmes (Marie), and Jeffery Holmes. His sisters Debra Leathers (Clinton Maryland), Michelle Homes and Lisa Johnson. His aunts Linda Ogburn (Eugene), Cynthia Anderson and Lori Holmes. His uncle William Mumford; and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, other relatives and special friends Jeff Jackson, James, and Derek Bobo.  

Family will receive friends at the Castillo Funeral Home 1757 Tremainsville Rd. Saturday after 12 Noon followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2 PM.
