William “Bill” Egan, 98, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on May 5, 2021.
He was born on November 15, 1922 to James and Ethel Egan.
Bill attended DeVilbiss high school. He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars while serving in the Army infantry division in World War II. On February 15, 1947, Bill married the love of his life, Lucille Aumiller. They lovingly raised seven children together while he worked for New York Central railroad retiring from Amtrak in 1983. Bill was well known and loved by so many for his crazy pants and unique style, his love of gadgets, riding his bike, St. Patrick’s Day, his dog Rocky and his firm handshake. His heart was big. He was generous, charming and full of wit. Our family will miss him immensely.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lu. Knowing he is back with her gives us such comfort. Also preceding him; his parents; brothers, Bert, Tom, Don and Lowell; sisters, June, Lucille and Jane. Bill is survived by his loving children- Dinny(Jerry) Stopera, Richard(Mary Ann) Egan, Tim(Debbie) Egan, Patti Russell, Shawn Egan, Bill Egan II and Jennifer Hart; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Phyllis Madden; many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Thursday May 13th at Saints Adalbert & Hedwig Church 3233 Lagrange St. after 10 AM followed by Funeral Mass at 11 AM with Military Funeral Honors to take place at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of lfowers, memorial tributes may be made in Bill's name to the charity of the donor's choice. 10 - 4
